How health insurance in Germany works.
Health insurance is a part of the German social insurance system. The tasks are the promotion of health, illness prevention and coverage of health risks. Health insurance is conducted by statutory health insurances, only in some cases it is possible to switch from a statutory to a voluntary health insurance..
As an employee you are either comulsorily insured or you are a voluntary member of a statutory health insurance. This depends on your income level and has no impact on the contribution amount or the benefits you receive.
