Inability to work
What to do in case you fall ill and are unable to go to work.
In case you are employed, fall ill and thus cannot go to work you have to inform your employer immediately. Please check your company's requirements about the form and extent of information you have to provide.
In case the illness lasts longer than 3 days you usually will need a certificate of incapacity for work from a doctor. Normally the employer continues to pay wages for the duration of the illness, up to a maximum of 6 weeks. This period is required by law, however, labor contracts may provide for longer periods. After the liability of the employer has ended your health insurance company pays a sick benefit. It amounts to a maximum of 90% of the net salary. Exception: The inability to work has to be ascribed to employee deviance.
