As an employee, you are voluntarily insured if your regular income in 2022 exceeds the social security threshold of 64.350 EUR. You are generally required to pay the contributions to health and long-term care insurance yourself. Your employer pays his/her monthly share to health and long-term care insurance together with your salary.
Usually, your employer takes on the payment and deducts your share of contributions to health and long-term care insurance from your salary. This is then paid directly to us together with the contributions to pension and unemployment insurance.

Your employer pays half of the general contribution rate of 7.3 per cent. He/She also pays half of the additional contribution rate which is 0.6 per cent of a total of 1.2 per cent. You and your employer pay 7.9 per cent each in 2022.
