Family members who are either self-employed, privately insured, exempt from compulsory insurance because they are civil servants or who have compulsory insurance as employees cannot be covered by dependants' insurance.
There are also income limits for dependants' insurance. In order to be covered, family members must not have a regular total income exceeding 470 EUR per month (2022). However, they may earn 520 EUR from a mini-job.
Dependants' insurance for children is only available up to certain age limits. In addition, there are restrictions for children if your married partner or civil partner according to the Lebenpartnerschaftsgesetz (LpartG) [German Civil Partnership Act] has private health insurance cover.
