- family members who are primarily self-employed
- those who have either been exempted from or who are not subject to compulsory insurance (e.g. mini-jobbers)
- those with compulsory insurance cover, e.g. employees
There are also income limits for dependants' insurance. In order to be covered, family members must not have a regular total income exceeding 485 EUR per month (2023). However, they may earn 520 EUR from a mini-job.
Dependants' insurance for children is only available up to certain age limits. In addition, there are restrictions for children if your married partner or civil partner according to the Lebenpartnerschaftsgesetz (LpartG) [German Civil Partnership Act] has private health insurance cover.
