What do you have to pay and how?

As a compulsorily insured student, you pay a standard contribution. The amount you pay depends on whether and how many children you have. Further details on the contribution rate for student health insurance .

There are two ways you can pay your contributions:

  • To pay each month, complete the SEPA direct debit mandate (PDF, 728 kB) . Please note that you need a European bank account number (IBAN) from your bank to use this service. Please make sure you have enough money in your account each month to cover your contributions.
  • If you do not have a bank account with an IBAN, you have to pay for the entire semester in advance.

Exemptions: 

If you have private health insurance, we need to check that it provides the same level of care as German statutory health insurance. If this is the case, you may be exempted from health insurance as a student. Use the online process below to apply for an exemption:
