Prevention and screening
Yes, there is! The health check-up. The intervals at which you can have this check-up performed vary depending on how old you are. Its main purpose is to help detect cardiovascular diseases, kidney disease and high blood sugar (diabetes mellitus) in their early stages.

We subsidise all online and face-to-face health courses which you can find in our German-language health course search (Gesundheitskurssuche). For these courses, we cover 80% of the fees up to 150 EUR for individual courses and 300 EUR for combined courses.

Yes, we do! We cover health trips certified by the German Central Test Centre for Preventive Health Courses that started on or after 15 October 2024. Due to the applicable TK statutes up to 15 October, health trips that were started before this date cannot be subsidised. You can find health trips in our German-language health course search.

Yes, men aged 45 and over can have a urologist, a GP or a specialist in internal medicine check their external genitalia and perform a prostate cancer screening every year. The costs of this screening are billed via the TK eHealth card.

Women aged under 25 can request a chlamydia test once a year. This test can be performed using a urine sample. In some cases, your doctor may also suggest a swab. The swab is a private service which you will have to pay for yourself. In both cases, the results are usually available in just a few days.

Vaccinations can be billed using your insurance card if they are regulated in the Schutzimpfungs-Richtlinie [Preventive Vaccination Directive]. These guidelines are based on the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) at the Robert Koch Institute.

We will cover the costs if you need the vaccination for a private trip abroad and it is recommended by STIKO [the Standing Committee on Vaccination at the Robert Koch Institute]. The vaccination must also be administered at a statutory health insurance accredited doctor's surgery or a public health department. All that is required from you is a ten per cent co-payment for the vaccine; this will not be less than 5 EUR or more than 10 EUR.

Treatment and therapy
Whether and how much of the costs of a medication or dressing are covered by TK depends on various factors.  You will usually have to make a co-payment.

We subsidise up to three osteopathic treatments (sessions) per calendar year. You will receive 40 EUR per session, but not more than the costs actually incurred. You can submit your information to claim a reimbursement via the TK-App or via Meine TK ("Kostenerstattung Ostheopathie", currently only available in German language).

We can subsidise glasses if the visual defect in one eye is more than six dioptres, if you have a visual defect of more than four dioptres due to astigmatism, or if you are severely visually impaired, i.e. you have no more than 30 per cent vision in your better eye despite wearing glasses or contact lenses.

Nursing care and support at home
We are there to support you when you are so seriously ill that you are temporarily unable to run your household and there is nobody in the home who can take on this job for you. The requirements for this vary depending on whether you have children or not.

Intensive out-of-hospital nursing care, known in German as "außerklinische Intensivpflege", is provided to the seriously ill who require 24/7 hour from trained carers. It is intended, for example, to support patients requiring continuous medical care, such as those who are artificially ventilated.
