As long as the majority of your time and work are dedicated to your studies, you can remain insured as a student, even if you work part-time. However, there are different types of employment.

Mini-job

You are allowed to earn up to 556€ a month, no matter how many hours you work.

Temporary employment

The job is limited from the start to a maximum of three months (70 working days) per year. Therefore, if you have a temporary job, you can remain insured as a student.

Working students

It does not matter how much you earn, as long as the following regulations are adhered to:

  • You do not work more than 20 hours per week.

If the 20-hour week limit is exceeded through weekend employment, evening or night hours or during holidays (semester holidays), the following must be taken into consideration:

  • You have a limited employment relationship and are not employed for more than a total of 26 weeks with a working week of more than 20 hours in a year.

Part-time self-employment

Here as well, most of your time and work must be concentrated on your study programme, and self-employment may only be supplementary.

Depending on your type of employment, you may have to pay contributions to pension insurance - these will be paid by your employer.
