How do I redeem an E-Rezept?

Once the doctor has issued an E-Rezept and uploaded it to a specially protected network within the German healthcare system, you have 3 ways to redeem it:

With the E-Rezept application in the TK-App

With the TK eHealth card

With a printed QR code

E-Rezept application in the TK-App

The TK-App lets you manage and redeem your prescriptions. With the TK E-Rezept application, you can:

redeem your prescriptions directly at the pharmacy.

send prescriptions to any pharmacy anytime, anywhere.

order via the delivery service from your pharmacy.

redeem your prescription online at a mail-order pharmacy.

You can select which prescriptions to redeem. Prescriptions from the last 100 days are archived and you can track the redemption status.

Please note that this function is currently only availalbe in German.

and the

TK-Ident-App

How the TK E-Rezept application works

Choose how to redeem your prescription: directly at the pharmacy, reserve and pick up later, order online, or use the pharmacy's delivery service.

Select all the prescriptions you want to redeem.

If you choose to redeem directly at the pharmacy, a QR code will appear on your screen. Show this QR code at the pharmacy to get your medication.

If you want to use another service, you can find nearby pharmacies that offer that service using the pharmacy search in the electronic prescription application.

TK eHealth card

You can also redeem your prescription with your TK ehealth card. You don't need a PIN for this. This is useful if you are redeeming a prescription for your children, relatives, or people in need of care.

How to redeem an E-Rezept with the TK eHealth card

Go to any pharmacy with your TK eHealth card or the card of your relative.

Present the card to the pharmacy.

The pharmacy scans the card, like at the doctor's office.

The pharmacy can see and retrieve your prescriptions.

You get the card back, receive your medication, and pay.

Printed QR code

Your doctor can print a pickup slip for the pharmacy. The slip shows:

your personal information

your prescribed medications

one or more QR codes

How to redeem an E-Rezept with the slip with the printed QR code

Go to any pharmacy with the printed QR code.

Give the slip to the pharmacy.

The pharmacy scans the QR code on the slip.

The pharmacy can see and retrieve your prescriptions.

You receive your medication and pay.

German gematik E-Rezept app

gematik is a German government institution responsible for digital health applications. They developed the electronic prescription app for fully digital prescription redemption. With the gematik prescription app, you can view and retrieve your stored prescriptions on your smartphone.
