Breast cancer and cervical cancer screening

Breast cancer and cervical cancer screenings for women are usually performed by a gynaecologist.

Mammography

Mammographies, on the other hand, are performed in special screening centres or radiology practices and clinics.

Prostate cancer screening

Prostate cancer screening for men is usually carried out by urologists, general practitioners or internists.

Skin cancer screening

Skin cancer screenings for women and men are carried out in dermatology practices or at family doctor practices with special additional qualifications.

Early detection of bowel cancer

The following doctors are permitted to perform colonoscopies for the early detection of bowel cancer:

specialists in internal medicine provided they are qualified to perform "endoscopic colon examinations"

gastroenterologists

surgical specialists, provided they are authorised to perform colonoscopies and colonoscopic polypectomies (polyp removal)

Stool test

The stool test, which is an alternative to colonoscopies and part of bowel cancer screening, is available at your family doctor practice as well as gynaecological and urological practices.

Health check-ups for men and women can be performed by:

general practitioners

primary care physicians

specialists in internal medicine

doctors who do not specialise in any particular field
