Women and men are entitled to get this health examination once between the ages of 18 and 35. In addition, we offer insurees with special risk factors, such as obesity or high blood pressure, another check-up every 36 months as one of our optional, non-statutory TK benefits.

Starting at age 35, you are entitled to get a health check-up every three years. Once you get a health check-up in one year, your benefits do not cover another check-up during the two calendar years following that exam. For example, if you had a health check-up in November 2018, you will be able to get your next one starting in January 2021.

During the health check-up, the doctor will identify and assess your health risks and stresses. The check-up helps to detect public health-related medical conditions and diseases at an early stage. The check-ups are followed by a coordinated prevention-oriented consultation, including a check of your vaccination status to make sure you are up to date.

What to expect during the check-up

During the exam at the doctor’s surgery, you will first be asked about both your own medical history as well as your family medical history and social history (anamnesis), in order to create a risk profile.

You will then be given a thorough physical exam (complete physical exam). Starting at the age of 35, and possibly even earlier as part of our optional, non-statutory TK benefits, the check-up will also include blood tests (total, LDL and HDL cholesterol levels, triglycerides and fasting plasma glucose) and a urinalysis (protein, glucose, erythrocytes, leukocytes, nitrite). The results will provide further information about the condition of your health.

Your doctor will discuss the results of the health check-up with you, taking your individual risk profile into consideration. If medically necessary, the doctor will also talk to you about what lifestyle changes you could make.

If a medical condition or disease is detected or suspected, the doctor will arrange for further specific diagnostic procedures and initiate any medically necessary treatment measures.
